Alan Hilliar and Pauline Craven

The charity was founded by Alan Hilliar and Pauline Craven in 2001.

Originally named Felsted Aid for Deprived Children (working name UK-AID), the charity aims to help sick and under privileged children, especially those still suffering from the devastating effects of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. We store and sort/pack our aid in a warehouse kindly donated by, Mr & Mrs Osborn and our office is based at home - thus keeping our expenditure to the minimum,

How do UK-Aid help?

We help in two ways - Fund raising to enable sick and disabled children to receive specialist treatment and delivering vital humanitarian aid direct to needy families.

1.Delivering Humanitarian Aid

Our main work is to deliver Humanitarian Aid

  • We apply to various groups and individuals, including businesses, schools and churches, for aid such as clothes, children’s shoes, medical items and sanitary products
  • We load our 3 vans with donations and drive in convoy to Chernihiv. We do this three times a year
  • The journey is a 3500 round trip, taking us through France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Ukraine
  • Since 2001 we have personally delivered the aid to the Revival Centre where, after customs clearance, it is then distributed to needy families and other organisations such as hospitals and orphanages
  • All our drivers are volunteers
  • Each trip costs approximately £1000.00 per van
  • We periodically also raise funds to send an articulated lorry to deliver larger items such as beds and furniture.

2.Fund Raising

We support the Revival Centre ( which was established in 1996 in the town of Chernihiv, and treats sick and disabled children, especially those genetically affected by the Chernobyl disaster. It is now recognised as a centre of excellence by UNICEF.

Run by Dr Vasil Pasichnik and his staff, a team of specialist paediatricians and psychologists design specific programs of rehabilitation, including medical and psychological treatment, for over 2000 children each year. These children have wide ranging disabilities and illnesses.

The course of treatment is for 21 days at a cost of £220.00 per child. This includes food and accommodation during their stay, and all treatment costs.
